Process Re-engineering
with Reference Models (ITIL and others)
One special variation of process re-engineering is based on reference models. It involves the integration of “best practices” – e.g., by using ERP standard software provided by Microsoft, SAP, or others or based on open standards such as ITIL or ISO – into the redesign of processes and/or organizations. The idea is not “to reinvent the wheel,” but rather, where it makes sense, to reuse it.
Our approach, based on the, can be used for this purpose just as in any other re-engineering process, i.e., method elements such as process analysis or problem diagnosis are configured as required in the particular instance for a specific approach to an improvement project. But during the redesign of the processes, we make use of pre-existing references, i.e., target processes are defined and implemented on the basis of available, standardized experience.
